Father of the Bride: Part II

I have already talked about Father of the Bride: Part I, but the sequel is just as exciting. My usual opinions on sequels is that they aren’t as enjoyable, but not this one. Father of the Bride: Part II is even more comical, more heartwarming and overall, I enjoy it more. In this movie, Annie and Brian are going to have a baby, and Nina is thrilled. But, George is not so thrilled. He thinks they are too young and aren’t ready to take care of a baby.

However, this isn’t the only surprise for the Banks family. Nina starts to feel sick and tired all the time and they don’t know why. They finally realize she is probably going Screen Shot 2018-12-17 at 7.11.23 PM.pngthrough menopause, so they go to the doctor. At the doctor, they get some very exciting and surprising news. Nina is pregnant! George is shocked, he doesn’t know what to say or how to react. However, the way he does act is definitely not helpful. He starts saying how they are too old to have a baby, how their child will grow up and have grandparents for parent, they won’t be able to hear their kid coming home late at night, etc. It is a hilarious scene, but Nina does not think so. She tell George that she feels excited, scared, and alone, because she doesn’t feel like she has her husband’s support. They continue to argue about the new baby and whether or not they can handle it.

Nina storms off and goes back to the McKenzies’ house, because they were staying their because they sold their other house. George goes for a drive through their old neighborhood and drives by their old house. He sees the new owner about to destroy it and thats when he makes a big move. He buys his house back, for a fortune, and goes to tell Nina. He asks for her forgiveness and tells her he bought the new baby a gift. He now thinks and knows that they can do it and that they are ready to have a new addition to the family.

As the months go on, Nina and Annie are pregnant together, and because Brian went out Screen Shot 2018-12-17 at 7.07.36 PMof town for business, Annie is staying at her parents’ house. George still has to go to work everyday, but Franck is there with the girls. He is there because he planned the baby shower, and constructed the baby’s new nursery. As the weeks go on, Annie and Nina are getting ready to deliver. They are both as big as beach balls and need a lot of attention. One night, George is so tired, he asks Franck for some sleeping pills, which worked a little too well. He was out cold and Annie suddenly started going into labor. Everyone was freaking out, and George was still asleep. So, Franck dragged George into the car and he drove everyone to the hospital.

At the hospital, George finally wakes up, and then something else happens. Nina was having some complications with her baby so they decide to deliver her baby the same Screen Shot 2018-12-17 at 7.08.34 PMnight. By this time, George is very stressed and Brian is still not back. George and Franck switch back and forth between the two girls and they do the best they can. The doctor decides Nina needs a C-section or else the baby might die, and Annie is right about to deliver. As they are wheeling Annie to the deliver room, Brian comes out of the elevator and he makes it just in time to be with Annie. George waits outside while his daughter and grandson are being born. They finally arrive.

George first meets his daughter, Megan, named after the doctor. Then, he meets his grandson, George. It is a very touching moment and warms your heart. This is one of my favorite movies and I highly recommend it.

Father of the Bride

One of my favorite old movies of all time is Father of the Bride. As you can tell from the title, it is about a father of the bride. The father is played by Steve Martin and the bride is Kimberly Williams-Paisley. It is such an amazingly funny movie and I always laugh no matter how many times I have seen it.

In the beginning, George Banks [Steve Martin] is expecting his daughter Annie [Kimberly Williams-Paisley] from Rome where she was studying abroad. What he does not expect Screen Shot 2018-12-03 at 5.10.01 PMto happen, is when she hits him and his wife, Nina, with the news that she met an American and they decided to get married. Nina is thrilled with the new, George is not. He goes off about how she is too young, immature, they don’t even know the guy, etc. However, Nina and Annie are able to get him to calm down and get used to the fact that Annie is going to get married. Throughout the whole movie their are ups and down with Nina and George’s relationship and Annie and her husband’s [Brian] relationship.

My absolute favorite character in the whole movie is Franck. He is the wedding Screen Shot 2018-12-03 at 5.03.41 PMcoordinator and becomes a very close friend. He is super funny and has such a heavy accent you can’t understand half of what he is saying. Annie and Nina love him as much as I do, but George has other thoughts. However, George just decides to let the planning go to Franck, Nina and Annie, and just steps in the background.

The wedding day finally comes and they are all ready. The church is stunning and their house, where the reception is, has been decorated and prepared for the big day. The ceremony is beautiful and Annie looks great. However, after the wedding all George wants to do is kiss his daughter. He keeps trying to find her at the reception, but she is Screen Shot 2018-12-03 at 5.09.37 PMalways busy. He misses the cutting of the cake, the first dance and the bouquet tossing. He is very bummed at the end of the party after Annie leaves. But, his mood changes around when the phone rings and it’s Annie. She calls just before leaving for her honeymoon and says goodbye to her dad.

This movie is all about growing up and letting go. As Annie grows up, her dad still thinks of her as a little kid. He finally realizes she is not so little anymore and is able to let go. This is a very feel-good movie and will really touch your heart.

Since we are entering into the Christmas holiday, I feel it fitting to discuss a Christmas movie. This is one of my favorite of all time. It is hilarious, childish and heartwarming. It is a movie the whole family can enjoy together and people of all ages can enjoy.

Elf is a movie about an orphan who sneaks into Santa’s sack of toys one Christmas night, and ever since then, the North Pole has been his home. He is raised by elves, but he doesn’t fit in. He is bigger than everybody else, he doesn’t fit in the bed or shower and he can’t make toys as fast as everyone else. He begins to wonder if he really is an elf, because he still believes he is. One day, his “Papa Elf” sits him down and tells him he was adopted. He explains he is not really an elf and that his real dad doesn’t even know he was born. This is when Buddy, that was his name, decides it is time to find his dad in New York. However, before his adventure, Santa tells him that his father, Walter Hobbs, is on the naughty list.

Buddy travels to New York and is amazed at the huge city and tall skyscrapers. He finds his father in the Empire State building. However, because he is still in his whole elf Screen Shot 2018-11-10 at 7.57.55 AMoutfit, his father thinks he is a Christmas telegram. When he finds out who he really is he is furious and immediately takes him to a doctor. He doctor confirms he is his son, and so he takes Buddy home. He is still not happy with this situation, but his wife tells him he needs to take care of him. It turns out Buddy also has a step-brother Michael. At first, Michael is embarrassed of Buddy because he is so different and stands out so much. However, after Buddy helps Michael win a massive snowball fight with some bullies, they become best friends.

Buddy also falls in love with a beautiful woman named Josie. They meet at the mall because that is where she worked. They go on a date and Buddy tries to convince her Screen Shot 2018-11-10 at 7.58.46 AMthat Christmas is a great holiday. However, she is very pessimistic about the holiday and doesn’t have any Christmas spirit. Buddy and his father become friends and they become a close family, but then they get in an argument causing Buddy to run away on Christmas Eve.

The night Buddy ran away, Santa’s sleigh crashes in New York Central Park and it is up to Buddy to save Christmas. The sleigh is not running because there is not enough Christmas in the world anymore. But, Josie brings the town together and sings a Christmas carol and saves Christmas! Josie and Buddy end up getting married and having a baby. They visit “Papa Elf” in the North Pole also.Screen Shot 2018-11-10 at 7.59.10 AM

This is one of my favorite movies because there are so many funny scenes that make me laugh until I cry. However, they movie is not just a comedy. It is a heartwarming family film, that I plan to watch every holiday season.

The Greatest Showman

The Greatest Showman, starring Hugh Jackman, Zac Efron and Zendaya, is one of the greatest musicals I have ever seen. The first time I saw it was in the theaters and I fell in love with the cast and the songs. Since that time, I have seen the movie many times again and listen to the songs hundred of times. The story line is amazing and has you on the edge of your seat every scene.

In the beginning Hugh Jackman, playing P.T. Barnum, is a poor boy who meets this young girl and they fall in love. They sing “A Million Dreams” and this is one of my favorite songs of the whole movie. You watch them grow up and eventually get married and have Screen Shot 2018-10-22 at 7.49.48 PMtwo little girls. His daughters help him to open a museum with odd people. Some extremely short, tall, fat, hairy, etc. In the beginning he doesn’t get much success, but as he keeps working on it, and never gives up, his circus begins to become a hit. He  eventually get invited to see the Queen of England with his whole circus.

As he begins to get famous, he and his family move into an extraordinary house and his oldest daughter joins the ballet. However, she faces judgement from the other girls because of who her dad is and he is looked upon as a disgrace to the community. However, P.T. Barnum doesn’t let this discourage him, and encourages his daughter to do the same. Eventually he meets Philip Carlyle and convinces him to help him run his circus in the song “The Other Side.” This is also an amazing song, but all of them are.

However, there are many difficulties that the characters have to overcome throughout the movie. First of all, P.T. Barnum’s circus isn’t an instant hit. Many people hate the idea of it, actually, and some people set the tent on fire. This causes Philip to be in the hospital for many days and Anne Wheeler is there by his side the whole time. This introduces Screen Shot 2018-10-22 at 7.50.53 PManother problem. Philip and Anne are in love, but she is a disgrace to society because she is black. But, they keep fighting for each other, and they sing my favorite song together, “Rewrite the Stars.”

Overall, this is one of my favorite movies ever! I love every minute of it and the cast and soundtrack is amazing. This movie gives me motivation and hope that I can do anything that I put my mind to. It also teaches me that it’s okay to be different than everybody else, and even good to stand out. Like P.T. Barnum said, “No one ever made a difference by being like everybody else…”Screen Shot 2018-10-22 at 7.54.41 PM.png

Crazy Rich Asians

Crazy Rich Asians was one of the best movies I have watched this year. The story was amazing and the acting was superb. It made me laugh, cry and fall in love with the characters. Nick Young was a boy from a rich family who “ruled” Singapore. He was in New York, and met Rachel Chu. She was a professor and they started dating. However, Nick didn’t tell Rachel who he and his family really were.

When Nick invites Rachel to meet his family, she agrees to go to Singapore. When they get to the airport, they get a bunch of special treatment. Rachel begins to wonder what all of it is for. Finally, on the plane, Nick explains who his family is and that they are rich. It doesn’t change Rachel’s perspective of Nick, yet…

When they get into Singapore, they go to Nick’s family home, and Rachel is blown away. It is a mansion and there are so many people there. Rachel feels very out of place. Thankfully, she has Nick and Peik Lin Goh, one of her best friends. At, the party she meets Nicks mother and grandmother and they don’t exactly get along. Screen Shot 2018-10-06 at 11.29.56 AM

Nick’s mother doesn’t like Rachel because she doesn’t think she’ll ever be enough for her son. She is the main antagonist of this movie. Rachel tries to stand up to her, but Nick’s mother just keeps putting her down. She continually makes Rachel feel like she not enough and that she doesn’t deserve Nick. During a bridal party for one of Nick’s friend, the other girls are very mean to Rachel. His ex-girlfriend makes Rachel feel even more like she doesn’t belong, but now it’s worse, because Nick isn’t there. One of the only people Rachel feels like she can talk to is Astrid, Nick’s cousin. They create a special bond, which really helps Rachel get through the bridal shower.

One of the most beautiful scenes in the movie was the wedding. First of all, Rachel looks stunning and her dress is just gorgeous. The song “Can’t Help Falling in Love” plays while the bride walks down the aisle. Water is rushing down while she walks down, and it is a Screen Shot 2018-10-06 at 11.29.28 AMbeautiful scene. During this part, Nick and Rachel are looking at each other, and he mouths, “I love you,” to her and she mouths it back. This moment makes me tear up and it is my favorite part of the movie.

The last part of the movie I will talk about is when Nick proposes. The first time he proposes, he tells her that he will forget about his family, because he loves her so much. However, she can’t say yes, because she can’t make Nick leave his family. So, she makes her way back to New York. However, before she leaves, she talks to Nick’s mother and just stands up to her and tells her what’sScreen Shot 2018-10-06 at 11.30.11 AM on her mind. When she is on the plane, Nick chases her down and proposes to her again. Except this time, it is with his mother’s ring. Everyone on the plane is watching, and of course Rachel says yes! Now that Rachel knows that Nick’s mom approves, Rachel can feel very confident and accepted by Nick’s family. In my opinion, this is a great ending to a great movie.

Professor Snape: Good or Bad?

In Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, there is one  person that confuses me the most, Severus Snape. Throughout the series, he seems as though he is constantly changing his Screen Shot 2018-09-21 at 2.15.11 PMallegiance between the dark side, and the good side. I am always wondering why he did everything he did, and I’m can’t fully grasp how everything ended up being for the better.

In the first book, Harry is suspecting Snape to be helping Voldemort find the Sorcerers Stone. He, Ron and Hermione also thing Snape is cursing Harry’s broom during the quidditch match, and making it go haywire. However, we know that it was really Professor Quirrell Screen Shot 2018-09-21 at 2.08.09 PMwho was guilty for all these things. It turns out that Snape was actually trying to steady Harry’s broomstick and stop Quirrell from successfully helping Voldemort from possessing the sorcerers stone. So, in the first book I know that Snape is actually trying to help Harry and that he is on the good side.

Many things happen with Snape throughout the other books, but he becomes a major factor in Harry Potter and the Order of the Pheonix. In this book, we see Snape in the beginning make the Unbreakable Vow with Nacrissa Malfoy. This makes me think that he is definitely on the dark side, because you can’t break this vow. (obviously) It we don’t know exactly what this vow was for, but we know that Draco was sent with a task by Voldemort, and if he couldn’t complete it, Snape would have to. At the end of the book, we finally find out what the task was, when Snape blasts Dumbledore with the Killing Curse. This had me, and Harry, convinced that Snape’s allegiance was faithfully to the dark side and to Voldemort.Screen Shot 2018-09-21 at 2.09.14 PM

However, it turns out that Snape was really a spy and had been on the good side the whole time. Dumbledore and Snape had planned the killing of Dumbledore the whole year, and Dumbledore knew it would truly make Snape look loyal to the Dark Lord, and pay off in the end. Obviously, it did. I still don’t understand how Snape could be so cold-Screen Shot 2018-09-21 at 2.10.15 PMhearted to kill one of his friends, and a great wizard, even if Dumbledore had told him. I also don’t understand why Snape had to wait to the very end to prove his true loyalty, if he had in the sixth book, he could’ve helped Harry in look for horcruxes and maybe he wouldn’t have died.

Even so, I will always admire Snape. His bravery to be a spy was inspiring. He knew if Screen Shot 2018-09-21 at 2.11.01 PMVoldemort ever found out, he would be dead. Also, his intelligence to be able to keep his true identity hidden. It is because of his bravery and determination that Harry is able to defeat Voldemort once and for all.

Hello! I love spending time sitting on my coach, with a bowl of popcorn, watching things that make me laugh, cry, and make my heart race. My favorite genres are comedy, romance, and fiction. I will be sharing some of my absolute favorite movies and TV shows, and also some that I don’t enjoy. I can’t wait to share with you!

The first movie I am going to discuss is Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone. I have been Screen Shot 2018-09-08 at 9.28.49 AMreading the books and watching the movies for as long as I can remember. Harry Potter is such a brave, courageous character and he truly inspires me to be confident. I really enjoy Harry, Hermione, and Ron’s friendship. When they first meet, on the train, when Hermione fixes Harry’s glasses, and tells Ron he has dirt on his nose, makes me smile and laugh every time I see that scene. Later in the book, their friendship is displayed when Harry and Ron help Hermione with the troll in the bathroom. By the way, she was only in the bathroom because she was crying when Ron called her a know-it-all,  which is very ironic. After that moment, they rarely left each others side and we can see their friendship grow as the book continues.

Another reason I love this movie is the suspense and anxiety I get when watching the end. When Harry believes that Snape is trying to steal the stone for Voldemort, Harry feels it is responsibility to stop him. The night they all go to the trapdoor, under the invisibility cloak is one of my favorite parts. I can’t comprehend how smart they all are, well at least Harry and Hermione, to be able to figure out all the things they need to do in Screen Shot 2018-09-08 at 9.43.25 AMorder to just get into the trapdoor. Furthermore, after they even got past fluffy, they had to pass many other challenges and obstacles. For example, the devil snare, which almost killed them, and the chess game. My favorite quote from that scene is when Hermione says, “You’re a great wizard Harry, you really are.” Harry: “Well, not as good as you.” Hermione: “Me? Books, cleverness, there are more important things. Friendship bravery, oh and Harry, just be careful!”

As Harry advances to find Professor Quirrel, with Voldemort on the back of his head, he stays strong and doesn’t give up the stone. Quirrel dies, and Voldemort is forced to flee without what he came looking for. After someone is able to find Harry and bring him to the hospital wing, Dumbledore is there to greet him and explain what happened between him and Voldemort. This part was always a little confusing to me and I have never been able to grasp the full understanding of how Harry seems to get away with everything.

After Harry gets out of the hospital wing, he is greeted Hermione and Ron on his way to the Great Hall. Hermione looks so adorable and is wearing a cute little headband. They both have some scrapes and scars, but they’re alive, and that’s all that matters. In the Great Hall, Dumbledore announces the winners of the House Cup. After he awards Hermione, Ron, and Harry each 50 points for stopping Voldemort, they are tied with Slytherine. However, there is one student that comes in clutch. Neville Longbottom! Dumbledore awards 10 points for standing up to Harry, Hermione, and Ron when they Screen Shot 2018-09-08 at 9.46.25 AMwanted to go under the trapdoor. Even though he failed his attempt, it was the courage that was rewarded. Neville was the real MVP! Leaving Griffindore with a great ending to the year, Harry, Ron, and Hermione now have to say goodbye to their new best friends. When they are getting on the train, the song, “Leaving Hogwarts” is playing. Whenever I hear this song it makes me want to cry because it is such a touching scene. Hermione asks Harry and Ron, “Doesn’t it feel odd to be going home?” Harry replies, “I’m not going home, not really.”
